Tintoretto

Tintoretto (Jacopo Robusti, 1518/1519-1594) was a Venetian painter; his nickname, 'the little dyer', refers to his father's trade. He painted quickly and dramatically, with sharp light, daring foreshortening and figures in motion. He made his name with The Miracle of the Slave (1548). His main work is the cycle of more than fifty canvases in the Scuola Grande di San Rocco (1564-1588). For the Doge's Palace he painted Paradise, one of the largest paintings on canvas in the world. He spent almost his whole life in Venice.
